The very anticipated The Last of Us Part II is delayed to May 29, 2020. This announcement was made in a PlayStation Blog post on October 24th.
The Last of Us Part II is the sequel to the critically acclaimed The Last of Us. This PlayStation exclusive was released on the PlayStation 3 over 6 years ago in 2013. Since then, fans have been patiently awaiting the sequel.
In the PlayStation Blog post, Neil Druckmann, the director for The Last of Us Part II talks about how the Naughty Dog team didn’t have enough time to get the game where they felt comfortable. Druckmann says, “during the last few weeks, as we were closing out sections of the game, that we realized we simply didn’t have enough time to bring the entire game up to a level of polish we would call Naughty Dog quality.” This is not an uncommon scenario. We’ve seen this happen recently to Bungie with the release of the Shadowkeep DLC.
Druckmann goes on to say, “this new release date allows us to finish everything to our level of satisfaction while also reducing stress on the team.” The new The Last of Us sequel being delayed might not be a bad thing. Hopefully Naughty Dogs can improve the game even more.
Fans will have to wait a while longer for Naughty Dogs to bring TLoU Part II to clean polish. In the meantime, plenty of great games will be releasing soon. Gamers can distract themselves with titles such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
