Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood developer Cyanide Studio recently unveiled the trailer for this new action/adventure game on Twitter. The studio, known games like Call of Cthulhu and Styx, has an affinity for the darker side of gaming.
When I first watched the trailer, I wasn’t really sure what to expect. A quick montage of glitchy construction footage, some shots of industrial pollutions, and finally, BAM! A wolf appears. I’m a dog lover, but Cujo here, he looks pretty angry.
Then, as the trailer progresses, we see a pretty tough-looking guy who I’m pretty sure is Sir Davos Seaworth’s cousin. Anyway, there he stands, looking as menacing as he possibly can, fists clenched. He’s ready for something. Something bigger, possibly with an even more gnarly mustache, is coming.
The scene fades to black. What’s going on? Is this a game about society and how we’re slowly killing our planet? Will the world end? Is GlObAl WaRmInG rEaL? /s
Then we see what appears to be fur. It’s kind of soft-looking, but I imagine it smells pretty bad. What kind of dude lets his back get that hairy? As the camera pans over his left shoulder, we see it. That’s not a man at all! It’s a werewolf! Dun dun DUUUUNNNNNN!
A red swirling glow releases from the werewolf’s eye, and then it happens. He lets out a monstrous roar that simultaneously cues some metal music. Heavy guitar riffs chug along as we see a big robot, a portal, and some regular ole wolves surround Sir Davos.
Assuming the story of Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood
Using my gaming ingenuity, I assume that this game will allow you to switch between our favorite Westeros-bound smuggler—yeah, I know it’s not really Sir Davos, relax—and a big burly werewolf to attack stuff. I also assume that we’re going to fight some sort of evil corporation that’s slowly destroying the world. And this Sir-Davos-looking-guy-that-I-know-is-not-really-him gathers the wolves to aid in said quest of wolf-on-human fisticuffs.
Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood is mauling its way to PC, Xbox, and Playstation in Q2/Q3 2020.
